Guest Speaker

Laurence Marks

Laurence Marks
Laurence started his engineering career as an apprentice at the Ministry of Defence in the early 1980’s. The MOD then sponsored him to do a degree at Oxford Polytechnic. It was at this time that he built his first finite element models. Since then his career has been concerned with selling, supporting, training and above all using, Finite Element and CFD solutions.
He was founder and CEO of SSA, which became part of TECHNIA in 2018, and has published numerous papers in the world of life sciences, where he continues to undertake research projects. He also writes for Develop3D and Benchmark magazines.
Currently he is also involved in several consultancy projects and is writing training courses for NAFEMS, the latest being on the subject of smoothed particle hydrodynamics.
He is also a regular, but not overly quick, Formula Ford hillclimb driver.
Dassault Systèmes Presenters

Jonathan Carter

Jonathan Carter
•Degree and PhD in Aeronautical Engineering
•Joined Hibbitt, Karlsson & Sorensen (developers of Abaqus) in 1996, and worked in various roles, primarily focusing on helping customers develop new methods and automate their current methods
•Prior to joining HKS worked for 3 years as aerodynamicist/hydrodynamicist for an America’s Cup team (we lost) before becoming a government scientist working at a nuclear physics lab for 5 years. Focusing on the then emerging technology of parallel computing and its application to FEA and CFD algorithms.

Jamie Wheat

Jamie Wheat
Jamie graduated from Coventry University where he studied Automotive Engineering Design before joining Perkins Engines in 2004.
Jamie then joined the Red Bull F1 team within the structures department working on composite and metallic components and assemblies. He went on to create and lead the FEA tools and process development group ultimately looking after the strategic decisions for the structural teams across the entire Red Bull Campus Group.
He is driven by a philosophy of efficiency and maximising technologically innovative solutions and was heavily involved in best practice creation, optimisation and workflow management with HPC and specifically targeting optimal job submission profiles to maximise operational efficiency.
Jamie joined Dassault in January 2023 and works within the global Industry Process Success Transportation & Mobility group, developing, enabling & deploying structural workflows for the automotive sector.
