Guest Speakers

Dr Mario Miranda

Dr Mario Miranda
Mario Miranda is a researcher in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London in Silvestre Pinho’s group, working in collaboration with Airbus on early-stage design strategies for large, novel composite wings. He holds a master’s in mechanical engineering, specialising in aircraft structures, from the University of Porto (2023). His MSc thesis, conducted during a research stay at the ASD Lab of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, focused on the impact behaviour of composite fuselage components.
He has authored several publications, presented his work at conferences, and served as a reviewer for leading journals in the fields of composite materials and structures. He was also part of the winning team in the biggest engineering competition in Europe (EBEC) and has been involved in teaching and supervision activities at both Imperial College London and the University of Porto, mainly on the fields of structural mechanics and sustainability.
His research interests include computational and damage mechanics, composite materials, sustainable aviation, and impact behaviour of structures.

Dr Ludovic Renson

Dr Ludovic Renson
Dr Ludovic Renson is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London, leading the Nonlinear Dynamics and Control Research Group. Ludovic’s group focuses mainly on developing modelling, analysis, design and test techniques to address the presence of nonlinearities in mechanical structures. Ludovic is also part of Rolls-Royce’s Vibration University Technology Centre at Imperial, where he works closely with Rolls-Royce on developing tools to tackle nonlinearities found during aero-engine development.
